New Years Sewing Resolutions?
It’s New Years Eve and I’m looking forward to some time on the couch tonight, hand sewing. It’s been a busy season and today feels like a nice conclusion to that. Among other work-related and personal projects, I spent some time in the last few weeks finishing up a sweater vest that I started knitting in the fall and sewing a new lined wool vest for my sweetie. I love the challenge of puzzling over a new design and I do love to knit when I have a great pattern. But I really have been craving some good old fashioned hand sewing.

I don’t tend to make new years resolutions — but I do really like to set goals for the coming year. Featuring prominently in my 2026 sewing goals is the new book The Handsewn Wardrobe by Louisa Owen Sonstroem — I love this book! It’s got a bunch of common garments with instructions for drafting patterns to one’s own measurements and instructions for hand-sewing them. I’m excited to do the drafting (that satisfies some parts of my brain) and the hand-sewing which just feels so good.
