Coming to a workshop?

Make it Sew Workshops are held in Rockbridge Baths, Virginia, a rural setting about 15 minutes from Lexington, Virginia and about 40 minutes from Staunton, Virginia. We’re about an hour from Harrisonburg, Charlottesville and Roanoke. Students who are coming from afar have many options when it comes to travel to a workshop:
Driving. We’ll provide the address once you’re registered. GPS routing is reliable and we’re around 10 minutes from Interstate 81.
Trains. The nearest Amtrak station is in Staunton, Virginia, serviced by Cardinal line. Charlottesville is next-closest and serviced by Cardinal, Crescent, and Northeast Regional.
Flying. We like our small airports (SHD, LWB, ROA, CHO, LYH—all about one hour away) for their friendliness and accessibility. However, one can usually find better prices and more options at the larger airports (RIC, IAD, DCA, GSO—2-3 hours away).
If you’re flying or taking the train, we may be able to help coordinate a ride or ride share from the station.
Amtrak to Staunton is a great way to get here.
Out-of-town students also have options about where to stay during multi-day workshops. Lexington has a several chain hotels which are fairly close to the workshop and near the interstate; the newest-built one of these is TRU by Hilton. Plan for a 13-15 minute drive if you choose one of these. Use Google or your preferred site to search for hotels in Lexington, VA.
If you want to be close to the shops and restaurants of downtown, check out The Gin Hotel or The Georges. Hampton Inn-Lexington Historic District is a short walk from downtown, too. Plan for an 18-20 minute drive if you choose to stay downtown.
Downtown Lexington, VA, alive at night.
There are plenty of short-term rentals that you can find on airBnB and VRBO, too—some in-town and some in more rural parts of our large county. We may be able to help determine how close the rental is to the workshop (not far from Rockbridge Baths Fire Department).
Refreshments are provided at every workshop. Day-long workshops include lunch. Multi-day workshops generally include a welcome dinner, daily lunch, and snacks. Food is fresh and homemade and we can accommodate most dietary needs. Camps include all meals for the duration of the camp. Ask for restaurant recommendations for your free time!
We’ll share delicious meals during the workshop.
We are close to nature and close to history so most people find ample ways to stay entertained with a few days in the area. The local tourism site has lots of info.
